Dear Friends in Christ,

It’s the last month of summer and I’m sure there’s lots happening in our families. Last opportunities for family vacations. School shopping. Summer nights listening to the crickets sing. Football practice.

August also means harvesting the crops from our gardens.  Canning and freezing. Jams and jellies.  I am reminded of one summer, the focus of our Vacation Bible School was the fruits of the spirit … Paul mentions them in his letter to the Galatians …

“… The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, 23gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. 24And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.”

Let the Spirit of Christ guide us through this month as we prepare for the many activities before us.

As I write this, our church is being painted, repairing the damage done by early rains this summer.  As a result, our worship services will be held elsewhere … August 4th, we will be at the Scandinavian Church, and if they are not finished with all the work, we will also worship there on the 11th.

The Bloomer Fair and Parade also happen early in August. Our church has a float in the parade each year and this year’s theme is “To Mars and Beyond,” which is also the theme for Vacation Bible School.  The dates for VBS are August 9th and 10th. The schedule is as follows:

August 9th 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Supper and Gathering Fun

August 10th 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Classes, Crafts, Music and a Picnic.

Please plan to participate in the fun and excitement of VBS.  If anyone is able to help with food, crafts, and/or music, please let me know. I will be calling some, but if you are willing, please call me.

As school is beginning, I am also reminded that some of our children are not able to afford the necessary school supplies for the year. I would like to suggest that we respond with an “Adopt a Backpack” Sunday, August 25th, to fill a backpack with school supplies to give to a child in need.

Thanks for being such generous people when asked to help in the many ways we can serve Christ together.  May God bless your summer days and nights!
